US, Israel, Jordan Agree on Solution to Jerusalem Tension

Jerusalem—and other parts of Israel—have been wracked with riots and terror attacks that have killed at least six Israelis in the past month, primarily through stabbings and vehicle attacks against Israeli civilians. The Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site and Islam’s third, is the source of tension, which has resulted in violent clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and security forces, and an assassination attempt on Yehuda Glick, a Temple Mount activist advocating for the right of Jews and Christians to pray on the Mount.

The Temple Mount Becomes a Burdensome Stone

Since the first blood moon at Passover this year, the situation in Israel seems to be becoming intensified by the minute, with angry Arab mobs attacking cars with stones and firebombs and other acts of terrorism occurring almost daily. On Monday, two young Israelis died in two separate stabbing incidents. Three others were wounded. In the first incident, an 18-year-old Palestinian repeatedly stabbed an Israeli Defense Forces soldier in a Tel Aviv train station. The assailant was trying to get the soldier's automatic weapon. A passerby who intervened was also injured. The soldier later succumbed to his wounds.

An Internet-based crowdfunding campaign between the Ninth of Av and Rosh HaShanah surpassed its 60-day goal of $100,000, as almost 900 investors pitched in to rebuild the Beit HaMikdash (בית מקדש, God's Holy Temple). Drawing $104,814 from its first ever Indiegogo campaign, the Temple Institute stated the 882 pledged contributions would pay for the complete work-up of the future Temple's architectural plans.

At a news conference in Doha Qatar on Thursday, Khaled Meshaal described the latest Gaza conflict as being only “a milestone to reaching our objective.” That objective includes taking Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site. Another statement after the truce announcement by Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri confirmed Jerusalem was among the long term goals: “The time has come for us to say that the true war is not aimed at opening border crossings. Violence Against Jews on the Rise in Jerusalem

On Friday, a foiled suicide bomb attempt at the Tapuach Junction near the Samarian community of Ariel led to an area-wide manhunt for the terror cell behind the attack. It is believed that at least three other terrorists are involved. There is concern that additional attacks will be attempted since the group is thought to possess additional bomb belts and other weapons. The suspect aroused suspicion because he was wearing an unusually large coat in the heat. He was arrested when he refused to remove it. The arrest took place before any damage could be inflicted.

US Congressmen Witnesses Temple Mount Bias

Last week, American legislators visiting Jerusalem saw firsthand the bias against Jews on the Temple Mount, on which the First and Second Temples once stood. The Mount is Judaism's holiest site. The Temple Institute's director, Rabbi Chaim Richman, organized a visit for Congressmen Andrew P. Harris and Ron DeSantis with a group of Jewish worshipers to the Mount. The congressmen personally witnessed how "outwardly looking Jewish groups are singled out and accompanied by both Jordan Islamic Waqf guards and Israeli police officers that scrutinize their behavior for signs of prayer or non-Muslim worship," reported a Temple Institute statement.

Orthodox Children Heckled and Mobbed on Temple Mount

Recently, a group of Orthodox parents and their children were harassed by Muslim worshipers when they visited Jerusalem’s Temple Mount (where the First and Second Temples once stood) during the visiting hours allotted to non-Muslim visitors, which includes Jews. Although the group consisted of about 30 adults and 20 children, many of them infants, apparently the security forces had advised that the children be allowed inside the compound first, accompanied by four adults. The pursuing mob shouted angrily and heckled the group while the border police prevented the mob from seriously harming them. The intensity of the attack forced the security forces to escort the group off the compound.

Knesset Considers Jewish Prayer on Temple Mount

For the first time ever, a special Knesset subcommittee convened for an in-depth examination of the Jewish right to pray on the Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site, which while under Israeli control has been administered by the Muslim Waqf. Although no Israeli law bans Jewish prayer, the Jordanian Waqf prohibits Jewish lips from moving in prayer on the Mount, maintaining strict enforcement. The Waqf's administrative role is aided by the presence of Islam's eagle-eyed faithful and the security role of Israeli police, who seemingly aim to diffuse explosive situations on Har haBeit (the Temple Mount) before there is a chance that they develop.
